Film Quick Review: Army of Darkness: Director's Cut

The third and final installment of the Evil Dead series continues that surreal take on the horror genre that injects tons of throwaway slapstick gags and humorous one-liners, this time into a medieval-era battle against an army of the (un)dead. The special effects and makeup are decidedly low-budget, and the story seems decidedly silly, too. Its worshipped cult hit status among B-movie genre fans may be unwarranted, as the plot simply does not hold much in the way of cleverness. But as long as one is able to look past the stupefying exterior, the film does possess some odd charm, especially because of main actor Bruce Campbell's ability to say and do nearly anything with tongue firmly in cheek.

Score: 6.0
