Namco and Capcom Together

Namco and Capcom have announced a joint project, an RPG that stars favorite characters from both companies' cornucopia of franchises. We've seen a lot of cooperation between video game companies recently, but the crossovers are usually limited to mere cameos and inconsequential bonuses. Rarely has a collaboration run this deep even if the ground idea is nothing particularly groundbreaking. Even less creative is the title of the game, dubbed Namco x Capcom -- I sincerely hope that's tentative. Still, the sheer thrill of a mass crossover between these two venerable companies should make any nostalgic gamer very glad. The last time I remember a video game of this nature was Kingdom Hearts, the 2002 amalgamation of classic Final Fantasy and Disney characters.

Namco x Capcom will feature two wholly original creations as its main protagonists, but the rest of the roster will consist of characters from series as diverse as Street Fighter, Tekken, Resident Evil, Soul Calibur, Mega Man, Xenosaga, Darkstalkers, Klonoa, Ghosts 'N Goblins, and Tales of Destiny. It sounds fun but a project like this could really go either way on the quality spectrum, so keep your fingers crossed.
