Trying Something New

For those of you who have been asking me, yes, I decided to stop writing film reviews for every single one I watch. Philo and my father started up the MVP program at Hollywood Video several weeks back, which means that they pay $10 a month and get unlimited rentals on anything in the store except the newest, week-old releases. Since signup, our home has been a 24-7 multiplex theater, screening all manner of films that one (or three in this case) could possibly want. Perhaps you can imagine the copious amounts of time spent in front of the television when you have a license to a neverending amount of videos. It adds up to about 3 hours gone in a typical day, and I simply don't have the additional time to devote to writing up critiques of every 90-minute set spent in front of the tube.

What I will try to do on this blog, however, is start a series of spotlights on forgotten classic films that I believe need to be recognized again. How many of you out there can say that you have actually watched films like 12 Angry Men, Once Upon a Time in the West, Wild Strawberries, City Lights, Ikiru, and Kind Hearts and Coronets? Maybe I can help just a few more of you out there to raise your hand.

If that works out, I might convince Philo to help me start up another spotlight series on so-bad-it's-good movies, starting with an article on the incomparable Death Wish 3. I think the world could always use more features like that.

12 Angry Men was a good movie. I can't say I've watched any of the others, but I've heard of them and would want to watch them someday- so keep them in your house until I arrive.
