Free Fiona
If any of you out there are Fiona Apple fans, you might have heard that she had a finished album, Extraordinary Machine, shelved last year. Despite the fact that her previous two albums had gone platinum, Sony/Epic decided that they were readjusting their focus toward mainstream pop and rap artists, which of course did not include Ms. Apple, who was deemed unworthy of their distribution and marketing muscle. But now there's a grassroots campaign to "Free Fiona" as they call it, and have this album released at long last. The gimmick here is that everyone's sending in an apple or any apple-related item to the address of the head of the Sony/Epic label, Andrew Lack, to be mailed in on or around January 24 of the new year. Even if you can't send something in yourself, you can leave a note (effectively signing their petition) and they'll tuck it in a fake apple sent on your behalf. Just do it.
