Film Quick Review: Miracle

The celluloid version of the legendary "Miracle on Ice," this movie is actually quite good as far as Disney productions go. This may be due simply to the fact that the film's story was a real-life one; regardless, there are thankfully no appallingly corny cliches that seem so commonplace in most other sports movies. What we get here is a straighforward portrayal of Coach Herb Brooks and his sheer will to win, a quality that motivates his players to come under his structure and strategy as a full-fledged team to defeat the invincible Soviets. All told, there are no ingenious methods of filmmaking at hand here, but the movie does well at exactly what it set out to do: deliver an entertaining, nostalgic, feel-good story for the post-9/11 era.

Score: 7.5
