Film Quick Review: Rounders

Rounders is an interesting look at the world of poker, where even on the lower rungs, high stakes can mean money is an "easy come, easy go" commodity. Competent performances by Matt Damon and Ed Norton complement the sometimes arcane dialogue, portraying the flipsides of the poker lifestyle: the thrills of playing risks in this so-called sport and the chills of realizing the harrowing dangers in its addiction. However, the film ultimately doesn't deliver anything of consequence because it attempts a multi-faceted story that cannot seem to figure out whether it approves or disapproves of its subject matter and protagonist.

Score: 7.0
